Curriculum overview: Fourth grade

Fourth graders perform the Passion during Lent.

Using the computer lab.
Reading, writing, and grammar are a few of the other focuses for fourth graders. A new computer lab (to be finished in January of 2006), as well as classroom computers provided by a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, help students to write book reports, research projects and communicate ideas. The Social Studies curriculum now includes Washington State History in addition to the study of the five regions of the United Stations, and mapping skills.

Through Community Service Projects and academics, students at All Saints Catholic School become aware of the world around them and their place in our global society. Nowhere is that more evident than in the fourth-grade.

The Ten Commandments, the Beatitudes, use of the Bible and traditional Catholic holydays are all themes covered in fourth grade religion classes. Students also focus on helping each other recognize and deal with social issues through the Steps to Respect Program. This program teaches the three R's of conflict: Recognize, Refuse and Report.

Math and science are also an integral part of getting our fourth graders ready to go on to the next level. Multiplication, long division, problem solving, critical thinking and mixed numbers are all taught. In science, fourth graders engage in hands-on units in weather, animal behaviors and adaptations, the human body, and environmental ecological systems.
