Curriculum overview: Fifth grade

Sports are offered for both middle building boys and girls beginning in 5th grade.

As part of our Ignite Program older students mentor new fifth graders helping ease the transition into our middle building.
In fifth-grade, All Saints students enter our middle building. Here, the emphasis is on developing strong study skills and responsibility. Students are assigned a homeroom and rotate for various classes. In addition to strengthening their academic skills, there is also a focus on strengthening their relationship with God

In science, students study matter, earth, plants and space. At the end of the space unit they create and launch their own rockets. A project in American History helps students learn research of another kind. Fifth graders are asked to do a detailed report on a particular event or person. Reading includes exposure to many forms of literature including fiction, non-fiction and poetry. As students move onto the second semester, they focus on comprehensive vocabulary, inference and prediction as they study novels as a class.

Fifth grade religious studies focus on what it is to be a Catholic. Parts of the Mass, learning new prayers and the special gifts each one of us has been given by God are all reinforced through the study of the scriptures.

They also raise funds, along with their first-grade partners, through licorice sales to send kids with Muscular Dystrophy to camp.
