TECHNOLOGY

TECHNOLOGY PHILOSOPHY

Responsible use of technology is an essential twenty-first century skill. Accordingly, our SLEs state that All Saints students are able to effectively use technology as a learning tool. We emphasize skill building alongside digital citizenship, and directly teach students how to responsibly navigate social media and the Internet.

Students are not allowed to use cell phones or other personal devices at school.

RESOURCES

TECH LITERACY

Both our campuses are equipped with resources to help students gain essential skills in tech literacy by following the Diocese of Spokane Technology Standards

CHROMEBOOKS

Our middle building boasts a 1:1 model, meaning each student in grades 5 – 8 utilizes class sets of Chromebooks, while our K – 4 students share two sets of Chromebooks as well as a computer lab.

GOOGLE WORKSPACE

All Saints staff and students utilize Google Workspace to create and share documents, spreadsheets, slideshows, and more.

Some student highlights relating to technology include:

  • School Google Workspace accounts for all 3rd – 8th grade students
  • Lego Robotics at the primary
  • Opportunity for upperclassmen to serve on Tech Leadership Committee

GOGUARDIAN

We take our responsibility to keep our students safe seriously in both physical and online spaces. All school devices are monitored by GoGuardian, a CIPA-compliant product with built-in filters that can be adjusted by the school. Using GoGuardian, our school has the ability to blacklist entire sections of the internet we deem inappropriate or irrelevant to student learning, as well as to restrict individual websites. GoGuardian also allows educators to enable SafeSearch, which prevents students from searching for obscene terms on all major search engines. If a student should access something inappropriate, the administration receives an alert in real time which allows us to address the issue.

Digital Citizenship and Social Media Policy

While we cannot police the entire internet, we do wish to educate parents and students about responsible social media use and digital citizenship. Our online selves must continue to reflect the Catholic values espoused at All Saints.

We ask parents to review the technology policy in our Family Handbook and to talk with your children and tell them that it’s important to:

Mean behavior is not okay. Make it clear that you expect your kids to treat others with respect, and to never post hurtful or embarrassing messages. And ask them to always tell you about any harassing or bullying messages that others post.

Remind kids that what they post can be used against them. For example, letting the world know that you’re off on vacation or posting your home address gives would-be thieves a chance to strike. Kids also should avoid posting specific locations of parties or events, as well as phone numbers.

“WWGS?” Teach kids not to share anything on social media that they wouldn’t want their teachers, college admissions officers, future bosses — and yes, grandma — to see.

Privacy settings are important. Go through them together to make sure your kids understand each one. Also, explain that passwords are there to protect them against things like identity theft. They should never share them with anyone.

If you don’t know them, don’t friend them. This is a plain, simple, and safe rule of thumb. Let them know that kids who follow friends are generally happier than those who follow strangers.

Acceptable Technology Use Policy

All Saints maintains an environment that promotes ethical and responsible conduct in all online network activities by staff and students. It shall be a violation of this policy for any employee, student, or other individual to engage in any activity that does not conform to the established purpose and general rules and policies of the network.
